Decorate Your College Dorm for Halloween

Just because you are in college does not mean you have to lose the love of Halloween. You can create a great look for your college dorm room with simple accessories, props and a costume. Decorating a college dorm room for Halloween is fun and easy. Here are some tips to get you on your way to haunting out your college space or just sprucing it up for the holiday.

ASK- Before beginning your decorations for Halloween in your dorm room you should ask the supervisor or resident of your dorm if you are allowed. Most schools are okay with decorations as long as they are not flammable and do not impose a danger to anyone. You must also ask your roommate, if one exists, before decorating. It is quite possible they don’t like Halloween, are worried about being scared or it goes against their religion. Compromise to find a solution that everyone can be happy with.

Window Decorations- Window stickers with Halloween themes or painting your dorm room windows are a great way to decorate for Halloween. Again, ask before painting the windows. Vandalism is not what you are working towards with holiday decoration.

Curtains- Curtains add a special charm to any college dorm room. You can make your own or buy premade curtains. Halloween themed curtains with pumpkins, cats or ghosts will add a special look. You can also go with solid colors of black or orange to give off that special Halloween feel.

Bed Linens- Most likely you have a one room college dorm. Your bed is a mainstay but you can easily turn this from just an ordinary bed into a Halloween festivity. Get Halloween themed bed linens or go with the solid black or orange colors again!

Props- Props are a great addition to a college dorm room for Halloween. Candles (in safe areas), plastic pumpkins, stuffed cats, etc. add a special element to your Halloween d├ęcor.

Webbing- Webbing is a great way to spruce up your college dorm room for Halloween. You can purchase web-material from dollar stores or wal-mart. Place it in the corners of the room or across your bed posts. You can even add it across the cover of your blanket.

Accessories- Adding a few accessories like tiny plastic spiders, bugs and eyeballs around the room will give off that Halloween feel. Add the spiders to the webbing. Place bugs on tables and eyeballs in candy dishes.

Add a Candy Basket, Cauldron or Pumpkin- One of the most important aspects of Halloween is having candy on hand for trick or treater’s. This is great for when children visit the dorm or when fellow college students trick or treat through out the college campus. Add plastic eyeballs to the dish for a nice effect when someone grabs a handful.

Ask and setup- Ask if you are allowed to have kids come in to trick or treat. This is a great way to show off your Halloween decked out dorm room and show of your Halloween spirit. Once permission is granted, let the kids in your family and town know when to come to get their treats.

Get a Costume- You must decorate you also if you are decorating your college dorm. Halloween is a great time to be anything you want to be from scary to sophisticated. If you lack an idea, look to your college major and dress up as what you want to be doing for a living. Have fun with Halloween. It only comes once a year so enjoy it and figure out what you are going to be next Halloween.
